Artist Biography Lynn Gertenbach was born in Wisconsin and completed her education in Denver, Colorado. She was awarded a scholarship to the Colorado Institute of Art and tutored under John Jellico. After graduating, she continued her studies at the Art Center School of Design, Los Angeles, UCLA and the studied with Sergei Bongart, Phillip Geilkerson, Bernard Dunstan in England and Arul Rah in India. During her years as a professional painter, Gertenbach has traveled to many countries to paint and exhibit, spending over a year in India. She exhibited in group shows in the Laguna Art Museum, the Carnegie Art Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, and the Isetan Museum in Tokyo. She was a guest artist for two years at the Artists of America Exhibition in Denver.
In 1980 Gertenbach was invited by the Instituto Cultural Norte Americano to exhibit in three cities in Peru. She has had twenty-six solo exhibitions in Japan over the last twelve years, and in 1999 a book was published on her that depicted these works. In 1995 she was awarded First Place in the California Art Club’s Mission San Juan Capistrano painting event. That same year she received an award from Oil Painters of America, and was awarded Signature Membership. At the 2002 Autumn Salon show at Edenhurst Gallery. Lynn was awarded First Place in Landscape painting. Gertenbach’s work was recently purchased by the California Club of Los Angeles for their permanent collection. She was the recipient of the Life Achievement Award form the Colorado Institute of Art.
Gertenbach has been commissioned to paint the portraits of many noted celebrities and corporate executives. She continues to teach workshops with the Plein Air Painters Of America and has judged many major exhibitions in the United States. Lynn Gertenbach is a Signature Member of the Plein Air Painter’s of America, Oil Painter’s of America, Conejo Valley Painter’s Association, and the California Art Club where she also serves on the Board of Advisors.
Lynn’s work appears in the 2003 release book “Enchanted Isle” published by Roy Rose. It is the history of Plein Air painters who have painted on Catalina Island.
