FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: DON MERRILLJanuary 2, 2007 (760) 346-7900A Traditional CelebrationRing in the New Year with Icons of American Impressionism
Outstanding canvases by the finest early California and American Impressionists start the New Year in Icons of American Impressionism opening Jan. 4 and continuing through Feb. 24 at Edenhurst Gallery in Palm Desert, Calif.
With an emphasis on California and the West Coast, the show features works by Guy Rose, William Wendt, Edgar Payne, Granville Redmond, Maurice Braun, Alson Clark, John Frost, and many others, demonstrating the artists’ individual and collective historical significance and artistic magnificence.
Concentrated on the East Coast, Impressionism was the prevailing style in the United States by 1900. It flourished in the West, as the great plein air painters seeking fresh sources of inspiration and a healthier climate came to California’s deserts, mountains, canyons, forests, and coastlines. “California artists saw the style as bright, colorful, and upbeat in feeling, appropriate for interpreting the state’s attitude, color, and sunlight,” says Nancy Moure, author of California Art: 450 Years of Painting & Other Media (Dustin Publishing).
Icons of American Impressionism showcases their works alongside museum-quality paintings executed by important artists on the East Coast and in Europe.
